We wanted to believe in good faith and we did it for the sake of a community and a Party that brings with it thousands of stories of women and men who have dedicated their whole lives to an idea: just a better world.
The Democratic Party is born with intrinsic contradictions that have never been resolved, starting from the name. What does “Democratic” mean? Are we democratic in the sense that we promote democracy or are we because we democratically choose the political line and the leading groups within us? The truth is that in these years we have not done either of these things.
The same applies to the political line: we said that there is not a clear and shared, but also on individual issues when we were called to give our opinion? Never. When was the instrument provided for in the Referendum status applied to the members? Never.
We could have lost – it’s true – but we knew this even before we started. This made us lose credibility and forced many of us militants in the territories to have to support opposing theses after a few months. Meanwhile, the right grew, thanks to a clear political line and a precise strategy.
